Opening Office 2007 files
Just in case you are receiving files from people using Office 2007 and haven't heard about this yet ... you can download Microsoft's compatibility pack so you can open these 2007 files in earlier versions of Office.

The file conversion software from Microsoft is great. However, I have found two problems. Office 2003 users do not know about the conversion software and Office 2007 user are usually unaware that they are saving and sending their files in a new/different format.
At our office when we install Office 2007, we set the default to save as Office 97-2003. This is easier than trying to educate/confuse everyone.
